EXPERTISE ► INTERIOR RENOVATION DESIGN

Articulated Design Studio offers interior home renovation design services in Vancouver, BC, throughout Canada and beyond.

Interior Home Renovation Design focuses on customizing spaces for single-family homes, condos, and townhomes to meet the needs of couples, families, and individuals. This process involves planning and designing changes to interiors, including rearranging layouts, and making updates to walls, windows and doors, design styles, and interior finishes without altering the overall space. Choosing the right interior designer can be daunting, but planning changes on paper is less costly than making physical alterations later.

WHY HIRE A PROFESSIONAL

Qualified interior designers help prevent costly homeowner DIY mistakes and push the style and aesthetic boundaries to what wasn’t thought possible before.

Interior home renovation design projects include making major interior changes in layout and planning while often keeping same building exterior. Style and finishes are updated to boost the look and function of the area. Renovation design does not typically involve changes to the building's outside or structure. Common upgrades will include kitchens, bathrooms, fireplaces, and entertainment spaces, along with smart home tech like lighting and temperature controls. We prioritize eco-friendly practices by reducing, reusing, and recycling as much as possible. Luxury design can also be sustainable and practical.

PREFERRED CONTRACTORS

What if you don’t have your own independent contractor or project renovator?

We have a preferred list of independent contractors that are ideally suited for residential renovations. While we cannot disclose this list to you initially, we provide you with the best recommendation based upon your projects needs. For additional recommendations, we recommend that you please ask your community of friends and family for a referral.

Interior Home Renovation Trends to Watch

Adding a secondary suite to an existing home is a game-changer.

Secondary suites are an important component of our local communities and neighbourhoods. A secondary suite may be incorporated into an existing dwelling, often as a result of multi-generational living arrangements or to generate rental income. However, the design of a secondary suite must adhere to numerous fire and building code regulations. Fortunately, the British Columbia government, through BC Housing, provides significant incentives to encourage the development of secondary suites.

You can find more information on the incentives here.

Energy efficiency is everyone’s job.

Important energy efficiency considerations in a renovation include the overall air-tightness and moisture resistance of the building, highly insulating windows for heat retention and reflection, and even adding solar power to return to the grid.

While interior designers don’t typically get involved in an overall buildings energy efficiency, we are focused on energy consumption such as cooking and preservation appliances, and water consumption.

Responsible renovations reduce our waste and carbon footprint.

The building and construction sector account for 37% of global emissions [1]. Non-renewable materials, such as concrete/cement, have a significant carbon footprint because they are raw extracted and used once with very limited options for re-use. Addressing the renovations tripple bottom line and considering embodied energy and cradle-to-cradle initiatives at the outside of the renovation project is the responsibility of all humans.
